How do I know when to buy new tires?

You should buy new tires when your tread wears down to 4/32 of an inch. At this point, you start to lose significant traction on wet or snowy roads.

How often should I check the air in my tires?

To ensure your own safety and maximum life of the tire, it is recommended that you check the air pressure in your tires at least once a month.

How much air should I put in my tires?

Tire pressure varies depending on the type and size of your tires. Consult your owner’s manual for more information.

How can I get more mileage out of my tires?

Checking your tire pressure regularly, rotating your tires, and watching for signs of wear-and-tear can extend the lifespan of your tires.

How can I protect against blowouts?

To ensure your tires do not blowout, properly inflate your tires. Avoid overinflating them and always use a tire gauge as too much air affects ride comfort and may increase tire vulnerability if curb or potholes are hit. Be mindful of underinflated tires, as this condition adds flexing to sidewalls thus increasing heat build-up and the potential for tire failure.

What is road hazard damage?

Damage that occurs when a tire fails as a result of a puncture, bruise, or break incurred during the course of normal driving on a maintained road.

What should I do if I notice a vibration?

Vibration is an indication that your car has a problem that needs attention. The tires, steering system, and suspension system should be checked to help determine the possible cause and correction of the vibration.

When should I buy winter tires?

It is recommended to change to winter tires when the weather drops below 7°C. The compounds in all-season tires become too hard at this point to provide efficient traction.

How do I find the best tire replacements for my vehicle?

Come by a GT Radial dealer for expert advice. We will ensure your vehicle gets the appropriate tires for your driving needs.

What are those nubs sticking out of my tire tread?

The nubs are the rubber that has been pushed or pulled into the mold vents to ensure a proper shape of the tire. When tires are removed from the molds, these nubs remain as a part of the tire.

When were my tires manufactured?

Look on the tire sidewall and find the DOT number. The last four digits of the DOT number are the week and year of manufacture. Example the last four numbers on the DOT are 0111 that tire was made in the first week of 2011. While a number like 2109 is a tire that was made in the 21'st week of 2009. Consult a qualified tire professional if you have any doubts.

Are all your tires all season tires?

All tires in the GT Radial product line rated as M&S on the sidewall all are "all-season" tires.

General function of tires for all types of vehicles
1. Weight-bearing
Air pressure and tire construction are important factors to carry and sustain the weight of vehicles.
2. Absorb shocks
Air pressure and tire construction reduces initial road vibrations and shocks before being muted again by the suspension .
3. Delivering power from the engine
Tires serve to deliver power from the engine to move the vehicle and also provides traction and braking performance .
4. Translating steering wheel movement
Tires are very important in controlling the direction of the vehicle, which will determine the maneuvering capability and stability in driving.

  Understand tire size
Tires have its 'language' to communicate in the form of a series of numbers and letters to indicating data specification, brand and type. It is universal and has been agreed by all tire manufacturers worldwide.

Here are the meanings of these codes:
1. Tire width (in mm)
2. A tire's aspect ratio is the dimensional relationship of the tire's section height to section width, expressed as a percentage.
3. Diameter of wheel (in inches)
4. Load Index
5. Speed Index

UTQG (Uniform Tire Quality Grades) Rating
The UTQG (Uniform Tire Quality Grades) rating is a labeling requirement by the U.S Department of Transportation for all tire manufacturers. The label of UTQG represents a tire's Treadwear, Traction and Temperature resistance. Traction and temperature resistance ratings are specific performance levels, while treadwear ratings are assigned by manufacturers following tests conducted and are reliable when comparing tires of the same brand.

The UTQG rating comprises of 3 components.
Treadwear
The treadwear grade indicates the wear rate of a tire and is a comparative rating based on test conducted by tire manufacturers. The grades are not an indication of actual mileage, but can be used as a relative comparison. For example, a grading of 400 should last twice as long as a tire graded 200, given similar driving conditions in the same brand.

Traction
Traction rating is an indication of a tire's ability to stop on wet pavement. The braking distance is indicated by ratings of "AA" (highest braking ability), "A", "B" and "C". Traction rating only indicates straight line wet braking and does not indicate wet cornering abilities of the tire.

Temperature
Temperature resistance rating indicates the tire's ability to withstand heat. It is graded according to a properly inflated and not overloaded tire. It is graded from "C", being the lowest, to "B" and "A" ratings.
Understand Load Index and Speed Rating
The Speed index is an assigned letter ranging from J to Z that corresponds to the reference maximum speed at the associated load index. Refer to the load index and speed rating tables below.

These two elements put together are called the service description and are mutually dependent. The table below gives the load index and the speed symbol with their corresponding value.
